Since the time Gartner introduced and enlisted Hyperautomation as the number one Strategic Technology Trends for 2020, it has been the talk of the town. Simply put, Hyperautomation is moving beyond automating just the functional, tactical needs of an organization and focusing on more integrated and strategic needs of the enterprise.

The Enterprise architects and technology innovation leaders have now shifted focus from automation in siloes to Hyperautomation.

While Hyperautomation now seems to have taken the front seat in driving the strategic goal of any enterprise, it is not actually Hyperautomation that is driving the business transformation.

Does that mean something else is in the front seat, steering the show? Let’s find out.

Who Gets To Drive Digital Transformation?

Remember, how every film has a main role and a side actor. We have this pre-conceived notion that the movie gets its happy ending because of the main hero.

Well, had it not been for the supportive role played by those side actors who ensure all goes well, the films would have never had their happy endings. And why are we talking about movies here? Because, something else is steering within the entire digital transformation journey. We shall find out soon.

Digital Transformation for business

Our last blog on Key Hyperautomation Strategies by Gartner focused on the three musketeers that enable Hyperautomation. RPA certainly did not qualify, it sure did enjoy all the fame till 2019 though, today, and Hyperautomation is all set to take over and why not.

Robotic process automation works wonders when it comes to automating the more functional and mundane workflows of an organization. About 80% of the critical organizational data is unstructured, created through tones of emails, forms, documents, chat interactions- that need to be worked upon.

RPA, however, is not an intelligent automation and the moment we speak of automating the less functional, more unstructured data points, RPA proves to be incapable of performing such operations, as it can only work on structured data.

The same goes with business process management (BPM) technology, it is an effective way of automating the most common processes, the less known, non-standard processes still need to be worked upon manually.

Hyperautomation can’t be achieved through frequently changing procedures and tools, as these changes call for a lot of manual resources adaptability.

Hyperautomation leverages several technologies and tools but it also needs a careful and rugged planning and enabling.

What is driving digital transformation in Hyperautomation: Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Digital Ops tools

The digital transformation, thus, is going to be led by the Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities- Machine learning, intelligent optical character recognition (OCR), and Natural language processing (NLP).

If you are thinking that Robotic Process Automation does not stand a chance in the entire Hyperautomation journey then it does in the foundation of Hyperautomation, but not as a standalone capability. AI and RPA go hand in hand to make end-to-end intelligent automation possible.

Robotic process automation is the counterpart that would leverage AI capabilities to be able to read and work on complex data sets; RPA and AI would together progress towards Intelligent automation. What would emerge out it is a whole new era of digitally connected, intelligent, automated, and highly adaptable workforce.

With this combination the bots would now have the data analysis and decision making capabilities. AI can understand and that’s what is going to change the entire end-to-end transformation scenario. As a quick example- AutomationEdge bot’s Self- Learning capability with NLP will help understand email tickets in natural language and Machine Learning adds to self-learning.
